10 of East Atlanta's Best Eats

The first thing that comes to mind when describing Atlanta to people is how 'pockety' it is. For all of you who are used to public transport and walking from place to place, Atlanta has never really been that kind of city. With Uber and the Beltline (a relatively new pedestrianised walkway that crosses the entire city), it has made visiting Atlanta without a car much easier. However, it still remains quite spread out and in-town areas are compromised of many different neighbourhoods, all with their own vibe.

This made creating a list of the best restaurants in Atlanta quite the challenge as there are so many different locations to target, along with different price ranges and ambiances. Our initial list included about 50 restaurants, which would make for a very LONG blog post! Therefore we have opted to categorize our favourite Atlanta dining experiences instead. We will be creating several posts in the coming weeks for Atlanta eats based on industry classifications such as location and scale of dining. Hopefully, this will be easier to read and help you locate the type of restaurants you're looking to try!

After deciding to categorize a little more, we had to think about which area we wanted to focus on for this first post. We settled on the east side of Atlanta, in part because of my own bias. Before leaving for this year-long adventure together, I was living in an in-town neighbourhood on the east side of Atlanta named Old Fourth Ward (O4W). During my time there, I was able to explore so many amazing bars and restaurants. Whether out with girlfriends, my mum, or Justin, I found that east Atlanta has some of the best dining experiences in town. This list comprises of a few of our favourite east side Atlanta restaurants that are on the higher scale level of dining. We would classify these places as premium casual to fine dining.

Experience all the food varieties with this tapas-style menu influenced by Mediterranean, Spanish, and South American influences. Be sure to also treat yourself to a glass wine with your meal at this incredible wine bar. You’ll have plenty of choices with over 400 wines featured on their wine list!

This has to be one of my all-time favourite Atlanta dinner spots. Barcelona has 2 Atlanta locations, one on each of the east and west side. As I used to live over by Inman Park on the east side of the city, I frequently visited this particular one. From romantic date night dinners to wine nights with my girls, this is one of my regular spots. Be sure to check out the Chorizo with Sweet and Sour Figs, Charred Okra, and Patatas Bravas tapa dishes.

This Inman Quarter Korean BBQ spot allows diners to grill their own meats right at the table. Enjoy traditional Korean dishes with modern influences. The stunning ambiance and unique food experience make it one of Atlanta’s best!

We have had several date nights here and always enjoy the food and service. For those of you who love a good happy hour like us, it's also a great spot with food and drinks on special. Check out their website for happy hour details. Don't forget to give the sweet potato noodles and one of their Kimchi dishes a taste. Just a couple of our go-to's.

An upscale oyster bar and cocktail lounge that features globally-inspired seafood and custom made cocktails. With a beautiful patio, a basement bar and some of the best seafood in Atlanta, this gastropub is a must-visit while staying in Atlanta.

We suggest paying a visit on a Monday to this seafood haven. Every Monday from 16:00 until close they have a "one buck shuck" oyster menu and also offer hand-crafted, mini-cocktail shooters you can pair with a "one buck shuck" oyster for $5 (USD) each. They do also offer happy hours for the rest of the week, the hours are just more limited. Check out their website for those details.

The American rotisserie fare, along with its live blues, make Two Urban Licks one of the best dining experiences Atlanta has to offer. Located directly on the east side beltline track next to New Realm Brewing Company, it provides stunning Atlanta views.

This is definitely not a kid-friendly spot as the menu is extremely limited, but it's a great spot for dinner with friends or a date. Some of our favourite dishes include the artichoke starter and the rib eye dish for the main course. If you're in the mood for a cocktail or two, be sure to get the Two Punch - it's amazing!

Location: 992 Virginia Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306

Indulge in classic Italian comfort food in the center of Atlanta's historic Virginia-Highland neighbourhood. This Italian delight is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner date. We typically use OpenTable and book in advance when we decide to go here as this restaurant gets pretty packed and has very limited seating.

Some of our favourites include the stuffed calamari, Tagliolini, and Saltimbocca alla Romana. But whatever you choose to order, we promise this place won't disappoint!

Do you love brunching as much as we do? If so, be sure to check out one of our favourite brunch spots located directly across from La Tavola. While Murphy's offers a regular lunch and dinner menu, its best dishes are served during their brunch hours on Saturday and Sunday. This popular brunch spot serves a killer crab cake benedict and shrimp & cheddar grits, along with an assortment of other options. Toast to the weekend with a mimosa and some delicious bites at this Atlanta gem.

Taste traditional Thai dishes with a modern flare. This cute eatery features a beautiful patio, calming ambiance, and super reasonably priced dishes. We call this place one of Atlanta's best-kept secrets!

I actually found this place completely on accident while driving around with my mum one day. We were in the mood to try something new and just decided to give it a try. Needless to say, we fell in love with the food and service provided at Mali. Now it's become a regular dinner spot for Justin and me. If you are a glutton for punishment and enjoy spicy foods, give the Panang or Shrimp in Green Curry dish a try. Otherwise, give the Massaman or Pad Thai a go!

Location: Ponce City Market Rooftop, 1829 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, Ga 30308

This rooftop beer garden and kitchen offers some of the best city views from atop Ponce City Market. With craft beers from brews near and far, classic cocktails, and delectable food choices, this is high on our list of favourite Atlanta dining experiences.

We actually just had Justin's Birthday dinner here last week with family and friends. After this most recent experience, we can confirm that this place never ceases to disappoint. From the food to the unobstructed views of Atlanta's skylines, it was a joyous night filled with fun and laughter. We left happy with our bellies full. So if you're looking for great service, food, and views, be sure to check them out!

Venkman's is sort of hidden as it's located on the backside of a medical clinic, which made it even more exciting to find it while walking my dog, Niko, one day. This hidden restaurant and music venue is definitely one of our go-to spots in the city. With a restaurant, bar, and live music nightly, it's the perfect spot to dance the night away. For all you "brunchies", they also offer bottomless mimosas during their weekend brunch hours.

This New American style restaurant and bar is something incredibly special. Not only is the dining experience always top notch, but the restaurant is a for-profit subsidiary of Giving Kitchen. The Giving Kitchen is a not-for-profit charitable organization that provides stability for food service workers who have been met with a crisis. Given the current state of the world with the COVID-19 pandemic, we feel that this is more important now than ever. If you find it in your hearts to give to this organization please click here to donate.

We hope that you get the chance to visit in the future and experience a little taste of Atlanta! Have you ever visited Atlanta, Georgia? Did you dine at any of these places? Let us know in the comments!
